We designed a multisensory data experience translating bamboo growth into sound and visuals for Gucci during the 2025 Milan Design Week.
Context
Gucci commissioned the project as part of an exploration into the relationship between nature, technology and perception. The brief focused on creating a digital experience capable of transforming environmental information into an emotional and immersive narrative while remaining grounded in real-world data.
Solution
We developed a custom data sonification system using data collected from bamboo plants, including movement, growth patterns and environmental changes. The information was translated into a sound generated visual compositions, creating a living digital environment where natural processes became perceptible in real time. The project combined data viualiation, data sonification and creative technology into a format that balanced scientific precision with sensory storytelling.
Impact
The result was an experience that expanded how audiences could engage with environmental data beyond charts or screens alone. By turning invisible biological activity into sound and movement, the project helped Gucci communicate innovation, craftsmanship and experimentation through a contemporary digital language.
